Sign up now for prescription drug coverage

In 2006 Clackamas County had around 42,000 uninsured residents, according to new figures just in from Oregon state. Meanwhile, 25 percent of those uninsured were enrolled in the Oregon Prescription Drug Program in 2006.

These stats come in Monday from Clackamas County Commissioner Ann Lininger. Oregon City is the county seat for Clackamas County.

Commissioner Lininger tells KATU that "With the increase in unemployment since then, as well as an increase in the population, the number of uninsured is likely much higher at present. We want to make Clackamas County residents aware of the availability of all the services they may require in these difficult times."

All Oregon residents who are either uninsured or under-insured are eligible the for Oregon Prescription Drug Program. There is no age or income requirement and no paperwork is required. The program offers up to a 60 percent discount on prescription drugs with the highest discount being on generics. Those signed up for Medicate Part D prescription coverage still are eligible for this program.
